Would you vote for Clinton and Obama on same ticket?

Sun Jan 27, 2008 at 03:42:34 PM PDT

I'm writing to address all the fervent supporters of Senator Obama, who in their zealous advocacy of their candidate have chosen to resort to vitriolic rants and personal attacks on Senator Clinton.

Would you vote for a Clinton/Obama or a Obama/Clinton ticket?

IMHO, there can only be only one reason for answering no: Your hatred of Hillary, Bill, or the "Clinton Machine" has reached such proportions that you cannot see clearly enough thru the ash and fog of the super volcano that has replaced political discourse in our culture, and on this site.

The rest of you can take a deep breath.  I like both candidates.  So, if you're a Billary lover who would never vote for Obama because he's skinny, tall, or he wrong shade please withhold your rants.

Same if you're an Obama lover who considers the "Clinton Machine" as ultimate evil personified, and best represented by Hillary's face on the cover of "1984."  Please hold on to your mud.

Thank you.  Now that both sides are listening, here's a bit of history.

Tip O'Neill (the 55th speaker of the house) was famous for his negative comments about Republicans.  He was also famous for the fact that he was friends with them, and often had dinner with the same people who endured his public ridicule.

They inherently understood that partisanship was best left on the stage.

I think both Senators Clinton and Obama realize that as well.

Now to the heart of the matter.

For those of you who criticize Senator Clinton, please pause for a moment and try to put yourself in her shoes.  She is the first woman in America with a reasonable chance of becoming President.  She knows almost every policy matter down to its nuts and bolts.  She has been a staunch democrat all her adult life.  She has supported this party, and its candidates vehemently.

Why would any of you resort to belittling her?  If you disagree with her, or her husband, or their tactics; you will be taken more seriously if you do not resort to the same tactics that you denounce.

For those of you who are critical of Senator Obama for lack of experience, being a Chicago politician, or his middle name, please pause for a moment and ask yourself this:  Are you an African American?  Can you relate to being an African American?  Can you be empathetic to what its like to grow up African American in America?

If yes, then you will share this sentiment:  Barack Hussein Obama has achieved, at a young age of 46, what most people (regardless of color or gender) will not achieve in a lifetime.

He is an accomplished, inspired, and inspiring leader.  He deserves his seat in the United States Senate and our praise.

For those of you who have unusual names, you should be able to relate to the effort it takes to overcome the prejudice that comes with your daily interactions.  This man has three unusual names, and he is proud of it (as he should be).

So, my fellow Kossacks, I, for one, will be proud to vote for Barack or Hillary.  Either one would be a great President.  Either one will make history.

I love advocacy.  I am a staunch advocate of many causes and people.  I just wish that inside our own party we can limit our discourse and not provide the Republicans more ammunition for the Fall campaign.

Personally, I hope that Senators Obama and Clinton run together (I don't care in which order).  Now that would be a historic White House.  That would be way for us to be inspired.

Maybe then, African American women will not have to endure CNN's ridiculous question: Who will you vote for, Obama or Clinton?

Postscript: Please do not ask me about my choice in the primaries.  It is truly a tough choice.
